What do Dietitians do?

Dietitians are university degree qualified health professionals that work alongside physicians, specialists and other allied health professionals to improve individuals health through nutritional intervention.

Why are we the best practitioners for nutrition advice?

All dietitians have completed a university degree and have undergone extensive practical experience within the industry.  Dietitians are also registered under the professional body of the Dietetics Association of Australia (DAA) which oversees the practices of it’s dietitian members.  DAA ensures dietitians follow the highest standards when consulting with their clients.  As a result, dietitians, unlike other practitioners offering nutrition advice follow an evidence based approach when providing nutrition advice, so that you can be assured the advice you are receiving actually works and has a positive impact to your overall health.

As part of DAA, dietitians are also required to maintain a high level of continual professional development meaning you are provided with the most up to date evidence on any nutrition matters.  It should also be noted that all Accredited Practising Dietitians, having attained the highest recognised nutrition professional status in Australia are also granted the status of Accredited Practising Nutritionists (APN).

The medical community trusts us, so should you

As dietitians are governed under the guise of a professional body with such stringent standards we have been granted Medicare status from the government. This enables us to provide special government schemes surrounding nutrition intervention.  It also allows us to be recognised by Australian health fund providers (private health insurance), entitling you to a rebate on dietetics services.

For these reasons, doctors and specialists alike trust dietitians to take care of their clients and so are their primary referee when nutritional intervention is required.
